Xiaomi recently sent out the invite for the launch of its in-house Pinecone processor. According to recent reports, Xiaomi is expected to launch two processors, dubbed V670 and V970.
The Pinecone V970 will be more powerful of the two and is expected to be made on a 10nm FinFET process with the help of Samsung Electronics. It will feature an Octa-core CPU, with four Cortex-A73 cores and four Cortex-A53. The GPU is a next-gen Mali-G71 MP12.
While the V670 will be made on a 28nm process and feature four high power Cortex-A53 cores and four Cortex-A53 low-power cores with ARM Mali-T860 MP2 basic GPU.
By building its own chipsets, Xiaomi will join other smartphone majors like Apple, Samsung and Huawei who also make their own chips. According to earlier rumors, Pinecone could be the processor used in the Mi 6, which is expected to release next month.
The Xiaomi Pinecone SoC announcement event takes place at Beijing National Convention Center on February 28th at 2PM CT (11:30 AM IST).
