Xiaomi has finally announced its first Virtual Reality headset, the Xiaomi VR Toy Edition in China. It comes with a zipper design so that the smartphone doesn’t fall out when moving the headset, uses Lycra fabric (nylon + spandex) and EVA that is lightweight, skin-friendly and doesn’t cause discomfort when using it for longer period. It can fit phones from 4.7 to 5.7 inches in size. Since it has openings on the front, you can adjust the phone if it moves and it also helps in air circulation.

It uses anti-glare aspherical lenses with tolerance of just 0.01mm and also promises the best clarity.  Xiaomi said “Xiaomi VR Toy Edition offers you a wonderful refreshing experience. Put on our VR, feast your eyes with beautiful and picturesque sceneries from all around the world.”

It also has a separate VR App that offers panoramic video, 3D movies, VR games and apps designed for the headset. The company said “Xiaomi VR Toy Edition app provides wide variety of video resources and contents. Latest film and videos could be found here ensuring you have a great time by using Xiaomi VR. Youku, iQiyi, VR hotcasts are few examples of our partner. They are among the best content providers in China and we strive to bring more contents in our VR platform.”

There is a metal button on the top to interact with the phone. On the inside it has non-slip pad that also prevents it from accidentally accessing buttons when using the headset.

The headset will be available in several options with personalized colors, including graffiti and decorative design. It measures 201 x 107 x 91mm and weighs 208.7 grams.

Xiaomi is currently taking registrations for beta testing the VR headset in China. Those who are selected will be able to get it for just CNY 1. It does not announce the pricing or release date of the VR headset for consumers, but it is rumored to be priced at CNY 49 ($7 / Rs. 490 approx).

Note: The name of Xiaomi VR Toy Edition is not finalized yet.
